Jolleraptors at play were often an adorable display.

For some the desire came naturally; a pair or more might wrestle, pick flowers together, find treasures, or devour treats larger than themselves till they were full and round. In others, that instinct was not as prominent.

A grumpy, black and white jolleraptor was one of those not so eager to frolic with their peers. Yami was curled up a little distance away from all the noise, tucked away where he believed he was safe from it all. It was a rare time when he could snatch a moment to himself. He was settled down, his breathing even as he slept.

The position left him unaware of the curious eyes watching him from a shaded spot a few yards away. They were bright yellow, and focused. Rabbit the jolleraptor had tucked himself up so he was small, ears flattened down so he was less noticeable despite his bright blue coloration and patches of spots. Even his tail was tucked down, only perking up with his ears when he lifted himself up to start moving.

His steps were gentle, silent, as he pad closer to the sleeping Yami. Every few paces he would drop down again, tucked up and looking as small as he could. Rabbit felt very exposed without a hiding spot; being out in the open was dangerous for creatures their size, but his curiosity overrode his anxiety and drove him on.

Little by little the pastel jolleraptor progressed. Yami was unlike any jolleraptor he’d seen before, with their horn protruding from their head and the interesting shapes on their body. He wanted to investigate, maybe even see if he could make a friend of the other. Something Yami still drove him to be cautious though…an air about him that warned Rabbit of the potential danger he might face in Yami’s gruffness.

Finally when Rabbit was close enough he was staring at the big, fluffy tail. He sniffed cautiously, watching the other jolleraptor to see if he was going to startle away just with another being so close.

With no sign of waking up, Rabbit was encouraged to rise up, peering over the black and white jolly as he reached out a paw. He nudged Yami, keeping low to the ground as he did. He didn’t expect the other to wake up at such a small touch.

Too bad Rabbit had underestimated Yami’s reaction.

Instead of a gradual return to consciousness the jolly’s reaction was immediate and loud. Yami jerked up, giving a loud, angry squawk as he turned towards who had just disturbed his sleep. It was more than enough to scare Rabbit back; not only did the little jolleraptor nearly flip over completely backwards trying to get away from the ruffled Yami, but he darted away and returned to a shaded spot where he felt hidden.

Yami had no intention of following the jolleraptor who’d disturbed him. He directed an annoyed grunt in Rabbit’s direction, then laid himself back down to return to his nap.

The pastel jolly stayed in hiding, wide eyes once again watching Yami for any sighs of moving to pursue him. When he was sure that the other was asleep again…he emerged, repeating his previous pattern of approach.

Creeeeeep—stop!

Creeeeeep—stop!

Creeeeeep—stop!

Before long Rabbit was beside his target again. He wasn’t as quick to touch this time, his heart still beating a little faster from the previous scare. When he worked up the nerve he lifted a paw, reaching—

Yami growled, and Rabbit froze. Even with his eyes closed, it seemed the black and white jolleraptor knew he was there. To get the _intruder_ to go away all Yami had to do was twitch his tail and Rabbit ran off again. One eye cracked open, and Yami gave a satisfied snort when he saw that his irritant had taken off again. He was certainly easier to chase off than the usual jolleraptor who only seemed to exist to irritate him.

All other attempts that Rabbit made went utterly ignored as well. He did try again, going slow in his approach and then tapping oh so gently. Didn’t run with a simple tail flick, but he did stop prodding for a few moments.

When there was no touching, but Yami could still feel the other’s presence next to him he peeked again. Rabbit was there, but his eyes were closed and he was—yeah, he was sleeping. There was a drawn out sigh, and Yami might have rolled his eyes, but he didn’t feel like chasing Rabbit away again.

It wasn’t like the other was being a nuisance while he was asleep.
